eema, the Independent European e-Identity & Security Association, today released the three-day programme of activity for its 10th Information Security Solutions Europe (ISSE) conference and exhibition, taking place between 7th – 9th October 2008 in Madrid, Spain. The annual event is the largest vendor independent, interdisciplinary security event in Europe.

Opening the event to an audience of more than 500 delegates will be Director-General for Information Society and Media at the European Commission, Fabio Colasanti, who will be joined in the plenary by the Executive Director of ENISA, Andrea Pirotti and Senior Vice President of McAfee Inc., Chris Kenworthy.

ICT security professionals, policy makers and industry leaders from across Europe attending ISSE 2008 will have the choice of more than 80 seminars and workshops, split over four specialist tracks plus a dedicated Spanish track hosted by INTECO and the Spanish Ministry of Interior.

World recognised experts including representatives from the universities of Cardiff, Catalunya, Gelsenkirchen, Hanover, Munich and Johannesburg, as well as SAP, Deutsche Bank, Juniper Networks, BSI and Microsoft will address in-depth issues relating to trusted computing; biometrics; digital identity; fraud prevention; privacy and data protection; Web 2.0 and PKI-based security services; large scale public applications; the security of mobility and the economics of security.

On day two of the conference, a highly topical panel debate will assess the international response to security attacks. The former White House Cyber Security Advisor and now Security Strategist at (ISC)2, Howard Schimdt, will moderate discussions between UK Cabinet Office representative, Nick Coleman; Chief Security Officer at Oracle, Mary Ann Davidson and former Principle of Asia Network Research, Aizu Isumi.

Exclusive to ISSE 2008, a specialist session will unveil the EU pilot STORK project, which aims to deliver cross-border recognition of national electronic identity systems for member states. Executive Director of eema, Roger Dean comments on the ISSE 2008 conference programme, “This year we are focusing on the education of security best practice, placing special emphasis on case studies to share how innovative and robust solutions are currently being implemented by European organisations.”

Explaining the reason for attending ISSE, Research In Motion’s (RIM) Scott Totzke states, “ISSE is a great opportunity for us to get together with our European customers and understand the unique concerns they have when it comes to information security and mobility.” He continues, “We always learn something new here, as the European perspective on security is different from the North American one. So it is a great opportunity for us to find out what are the real issues and trends facing our European customers and how do they differ from the ones that are facing other countries in the world.”.

The conference programme for ISSE 2008 has been compiled by TeleTrusT in collaboration with eema, ENISA (the European Network and Information Security Agency) and INTECO. Current event sponsors include BlackBerry (RIM), CoreStreet, GigaTrust, McAfee, Telindus, the Federal Authority For IT Security (Germany), Giesecke & Devrient GMBH, ING, Safelayer Secure Communications and TeleTrusT,.
